Hainan’s headline sights

Southern Hainan’s 5A attractions

Hainan has seven 5A attractions, and all seven are in the south. Four are in Sanya, two are just inland in Baoting and one is on the Lingshui coast. Here is how to choose between them.

Choose by experience, not rating

5A is China’s highest official attraction rating, covering facilities, management and visitor services. It does not mean these seven places offer the same kind of day: the list includes temples, rainforest parks, cultural villages, coastal walks and ferry islands.

4in Sanya
2in Baoting
1in Lingshui

The quick split: choose Nanshan or Binglanggu for culture, Yanoda for rainforest, Wuzhizhou or Boundary Island for a ferry day, and Tianya Haijiao or Daxiao Dongtian for a free-entry coastal walk.

Sanya

Choose among four distinct days: Nanshan for its cultural landmark, Wuzhizhou for island scenery and paid watersports, or either western coastal park for a free-entry seaside walk.
